Captain's message

I must admit that being voted on as captain of the BLCGA came as a bit of a surprise last night, but I will do my best to continue the good work done by previous captains.  I welcome Sharon Paterson and Elaine Brotherstone on to the committee.
As you may already know, as the Border Ladies Junior Convenor, I have been a keen advocate for junior golf and with our youngsters now competing on the national stage I am very optimistic for our future.  I will endeavour to bring the same enthusiasm to my new position by encouraging our membership, both young and old, (and all those in between!!) to participate in this game which we all love.
Last night, Gillian Oliver, presented Isobel Massie with honorary life membership of the BLCGA, a fitting accolade for someone who, as a previous captain and president, has been and continues to be, one of the County’s staunchest supporters.
I look forward to seeing you all in 2014

Open letter from Isobel Massie (Past President)

Gillian
I am so sad to read your message to the members of Borders . I think it is dreadful that nobody is willing to take on the Captaincy. I know it has been a struggle for years to find people who will do anything other than turn up and play competitions , but this is awful . You have done a great job and that makes you a hard act to follow , you must  be the youngest ever Captain and done it so well . But there are members who have enjoyed their golf in the Borders and merrily gone on to the Vets without any thought of giving something back . When I was invited to be Captain I saw it as an honour , even more so not being born a Borderer. The second time around, like you I could not get  a vice captain , and it was not easy doing it from Haddington, so I can understand your frustration .
There has never been been more promise for the County than now with the fine young girls coming through , and it would surely be rewarding to be the  Captain  with all this happening  and extremely sad if it all falls apart .
I fully support you in your stepping down , you have certainly done your bit . I really hope someone will come forward on the 25th .
Best Regards
Isobel

Captain's Message

Hi All,
As you may or may not be aware I will be due to giving up the post as Captain of the County Golf Association at the forthcoming AGM.  I am not willing to continue due to work and other personnel commitments.  As yet I have not been able to find someone to takeover, this is not for want of trying however no-one appears to be in a position or want to take over the role.  This message is to every member of the county to consider whether they could fill this role or know someone that could.  The position is not that time consuming as we have a committee that is willing and able to organise competitions and be at events.  In addition meetings are only held when required (no more than 4 times a year).
To put it bluntly without someone taking on this position I am unsure about the future of the BLCGA, which I think is a great shame.  Not only because of the great history of the organisation, but looking to the future what impact it will have on our up and coming juniors.
Please take time to consider this, and make others aware and hopefully we can find someone to fill the post.  If you or anyone else would like further information please get in touch.

Thanks
Gillian
