Message from Pam our new Captain

I can't quite believe how quickly this past year has gone, and I hope you have had a very enjoyable golfing season.

I would like to, once again, take the time to pass on my sincere thanks to Sharon for her hard work and dedication to the Border Ladies during her Captain's term and I congratulate her on a very successful year. As a Vice Captain, I don't think I could have learned from a better person, Sharon's commitment this year has been exceptional and I have very much enjoyed my year working alongside her, I will do my utmost to continue her high standards, thank you Sharon.

Unfortunately at the moment, I don't have a Vice Captain, however I have the support of a very willing and able committee and I know they will make my year much easier. We still have two vacancies on the committee and if anyone would like to know more about what this would entail, please get in touch. Of course, you don't need to be on the committee to help out, and I'm sure I can call on everyone for assistance if required.

The list of fixtures for 2026 is below and I hope you will agree we have a good mix of venues this coming year. I am very grateful to each club for their support in allowing us courtesy of their course and I am looking forward to the year ahead and enjoying our golf together.

If you have any questions or queries, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Enjoy your winter golf, and I look forward to seeing you in the Spring.

Best Wishes

Pam Cessford

Captain

Message from Sharon our outgoing Captain

We held our AGM last night at Melrose GC. Many thanks to Melrose for allowing us to host it there and Janice for opening up, as well as all the ladies that attended.

I'm delighted to say that the new Border Ladies Captain is Pam Cessford. Pam has been my Vice-Captain over the last year and I can honestly say I couldn't have picked a better V-C. Pam has been by my side offering help and assistance throughout the year and I know I'm passing on the Captaincy to very capable hands.

I'd like to thank my Committee for all their hard work and support, everyone mucked in and made my role easier. To the Team, caddies and supporters, thank you for all the effort and commitment at the Jamboree. The conditions tested us to the limits, but we still came out smiling with our team spirit shining through.

To all the members who have supported our competitions and the clubs that have kindly given us courtesy of your courses, thank you.

I've thoroughly enjoyed my term as Captain and look forward to seeing everyone out on the course next season.

Best wishes
Sharon

Claire MacTaggart

The Border Ladies were deeply saddened to hear of the death of past captain Claire Mactaggart, who sadly lost her battle with MND.

Claire, despite not being a golfer herself, took on the role of Captain during season 2019/20 at a time when we were struggling to find a Captain.  This speaks volumes of Claire as a person, with her totally embracing the role and always with a smile on her face.
We will forever be grateful to Claire for all the support she gave the Border Ladies over the years along with her husband Stuart.

Our heartfelt condolences go to Stuart, Tara, Gina and all the family ❤️

BLCGA Championship - Kelso 16/17th August

This weekend sees our Championship taking place at Kelso GC on Sat 16th and Sun 17th Aug.

The first round kicks off at 08.40am on Saturday with the qualifiers all vying for a place in the quarter finals at 1pm.
Sunday is the Semi Finals at 9am with the winners competing in the Final at 1pm.
Can anyone stop Leanne Wilson winning her 3rd Championship on the trot on home soil?

The Bronze Championship also takes place on Sunday with the ladies teeing off from 9.30 and playing a Stableford. Defending Champion Fiona Melrose is in the draw looking to take the silverware home again.

Light snacks will be available on the day in the clubhouse.

It would be great to see people out to support the players over the course of the 2 days, with a high standard of golf sure to be on display.

Leanne and Fiona please remember and bring the trophies back at the weekend.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the weekend, battling it out to become the respective Champions. Good luck to all competitiors.

Helen Cuthbertson

We are deeply saddened to hear of the recent passing of past Captain Helen Cuthbertson. Helen was very passionate about her golf which showed in the positions she held.

Helen's positions included:
Border Ladies Captain 1996/97
Border Ladies President 2004-06
SLGA board 2007-11

Our thoughts are with Joyce and Helen's family at this difficult time.

Jenny Cleghorn results 13th April

Many thanks to everyone that played in our opening competition of the season. It was great to see so many couples out playing with some excellent scores coming in.

A big thank you to Catherine Renton and Linda Ovens for manning the bar and providing the cakes and tray bakes, both put in a very long shift which was greatly appreciated. Thanks to St Boswells for hosting this again, it's always good to start the season down by the river. The course was looking good for this time of the year but like all our courses the greens were crying out for rain.

Thanks also to my Committee for assisting with desk duty and providing the rolls, all money taken for the rolls has been added to the donation box, £131.78 will be going to the Margaret Kerr Unit at the BGH.

Silver

1st A Vine & R Wigmore 69

Bronze

1st L Ker & J Allan 65 (BIH from 3 couples)

There was only 5 2's with Julie Birdsall and Kirsty Baird having 2!! Each couple will receive £30 with Julie and Kirsty getting £60.

Message from 2025 Captain, Sharon Paterson

First, I would like to thank Kirsty for giving me this opportunity to be Border Ladies Captain. I have been involved with the County team for many years, made many friends and had a lot of enjoyment. I am both honoured and privileged to be leading this talented group of ladies along with my Vice-Captain Pam Cessford. Pam and I have known each other for many years, and I am delighted that she will be by my side.

Kirsty is going to be a very tough act to follow. The enthusiasm, dedication and commitment she has shown over the last 2 years has been immense. Kirsty, you should be super proud of your achievements these last 2 years, you have been a great Captain, I only hope I can uphold your high standards.

Next season we have a couple of additional competitions in the calander, the joint Tex-Mex with the Border Seniors which we hold every 2 years. The aim of this competition was to get as many ladies as possible from both groups together, meet new people and hopefully encourage both to enter each other's respective competitions. We are also running a "Champion of Champions" which will be played for the Lady Henderson Cup. This in the past was a stroke play cup with the winner having the lowest scratch score. The Committee decided we would now hold this competition with each clubs 2024 Champions being invited to play. I am delighted that for the first year we have managed to get The Roxburghe as the venue. I have attached a list of the Club Champions that we currently know of and would ask if someone from the other clubs would contact us with their respective Champions from 2024.
